As the Duke of Edinburgh announces his retirement at the grand age of 95, few people could rival his commitment to the job with the possible exception of Davie Smith who has just retired after 28 years' service with James Frew.
Joining the company in 1989 following his apprenticeship and a spell at two local companies, Davie was assigned to the Maintenance Division where he remained throughout his career. Although also a qualified plumber, Davie worked as a heating engineer carrying out repairs for both the private and public sector.
A keen walker, Davie is already planning trips away in his caravan along with his wife, Christine, and their five dogs - two Labradors and three Cocker Spaniels.
Davie said, "I honestly couldn't work for anyone better. The management team are very fair and I've really enjoyed working for the business."
Managing Director, Roddy Frew, presented Davie with vouchers for a break to the newly extended Seamill Hydro. He added, "We are very fortunate to have benefited from a number of long serving members of staff including Davie. Such continuity in business is really important, although often rare, and we are very appreciative of Davie's commitment to the business over the years."
