Boiler Types

Combi Boiler

The UK’s most popular boiler for central heating systems and hot water, as water is heated only when a hot tap or shower is turned on, thus ensuring maximum energy efficiency. The hot water is delivered at mains pressure, allowing you to enjoy a powerful shower without a pump.

System Boiler

An ideal solution if you require more hot water than a combi provides. A System boiler pumps hot water to the radiators and a sealed hot water storage cylinder, which can provide a greater hot water flow rate without a loss of pressure. These boilers combine high efficiency and performance with great green credentials.

What Our Customers Say – 4.6 Stars on Google

“Excellent service from James Frew. We have been with them for at least 10 years and they are efficient and friendly. Our boiler is serviced by them on an annual basis with no issues and we had plumbing cover and the one time we needed them for a minor issue it was fixed quickly without any big wait that you get with some tradesmen. Also no hard sell from them everytime they service the boiler as we got with another major company. Highly recommended.”

Boiler Installation FAQS

When should I get a new boiler?

Most boilers last 10-15 years with regular servicing. You may need a new boiler if:

  • Your boiler is over 10 years old and less efficient.
  • You’re frequently paying for repairs or breakdowns.
  • Your heating bills are increasing despite no change in usage.
  • Your boiler is leaking, noisy, or struggling to heat your home properly.
  • You want to upgrade to a more energy-efficient model and reduce your carbon footprint.

If you’re unsure, our expert engineers can assess your current boiler and recommend the best option for your home.

Why get a new boiler?

A new boiler is one of the smartest investments you can make for your home, offering greater efficiency, lower energy costs, and improved reliability. Upgrading to a modern A-rated boiler can significantly reduce your energy bills—sometimes by as much as 30% compared to older models—as it uses energy more efficiently to generate heat and hot water.

Beyond cost savings, a new boiler provides greater reliability, meaning fewer unexpected breakdowns and costly repairs. If your current boiler struggles to keep your home warm or takes too long to heat water, an upgrade will improve performance, ensuring consistent heating and strong water pressure throughout your home. Modern boilers also come with smart controls, allowing you to adjust your heating remotely via a mobile app, making it easier than ever to maintain a comfortable home environment.

Environmental impact is another crucial reason to upgrade. Additionally, a new boiler can add value to your property, as buyers are increasingly looking for energy-efficient homes with modern heating systems.

How do I choose the right boiler for my needs?

Choosing the right boiler depends on your home size, hot water needs, and heating system. Combi boilers are ideal for small to medium homes with one to two bathrooms, as they heat water on demand without needing a storage tank, making them both energy-efficient and space-saving. They also function as a high-efficiency water heater and central heating unit, improving water pressure while eliminating the need for a separate hot water cylinder.

For larger homes with multiple bathrooms, a system boiler is a better choice. It stores hot water in a cylinder, ensuring consistent pressure even when multiple taps are in use. If your home has a traditional heating system with separate hot and cold water tanks, a regular (conventional) boiler may be the most compatible option.

If you’re unsure which boiler suits your needs, our expert team can guide you to the most energy-efficient and cost-effective solution for your home.

Do you have to replace radiators with a new boiler?

Replacing your boiler doesn’t always mean you need to replace your radiators. If your existing radiators are in good condition and heat your home efficiently, they can continue to work with your new boiler. However, if they are old, inefficient, or have cold spots, upgrading them can improve heat distribution and help you get the most out of your new system.

A new boiler operates at higher efficiency, but older radiators may struggle to keep up, especially if they have built-up sludge or blockages. To ensure optimal performance, we offer power flushing services to clean your system, magnetic filters to prevent debris buildup, and thermostatic radiator valves, allowing better temperature control in each room.

If you’re unsure whether your radiators need replacing, our engineers can assess your system and recommend the best solution for maximum efficiency and comfort.

Can I get a grant for a replacement boiler?

Yes, some homeowners may qualify for boiler grants under government energy efficiency schemes. Eligibility depends on your household income, whether you receive certain benefits and the energy efficiency of your current boiler.

We recommend checking official government schemes like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) or ECO4 scheme for the latest grants.

Do I need to replace my gas boiler?

The UK government has been considering measures to reduce carbon emissions, including proposals to phase out gas boilers. However, as of now, there is no legislation mandating the immediate replacement of existing gas boilers in homes. Recent reports indicate that plans to ban the sale of new gas boilers by 2035 have been scrapped, allowing homeowners to continue using and installing new gas boilers beyond this date.

While there is currently no legal requirement to replace your gas boiler, upgrading to a more efficient model can enhance your home’s energy efficiency and reduce utility bills.
